20th Jul 2008Class 180 "Adelante"
This is the gallery of the Class 180 "Adelante" DEMU. 180111 is now in service with First Hull Trains but all 14 of these units originally entered service with First Great Western and operated out of London Paddington to Reading and Worcester Shrub Hill. Though it is understood that the refurbished HST's with MTU engines have now replaced them. Where will the remaining units go next? Only time will tell!
16th Aug 2008Class 185 "Desiro"
This gallery is devoted to the Class 185 "Desiro" Diesel Multiple Unit operated by First Transpennine Express (FTPE) in 2006. These units can be seen in operation around the East/North Midlands to the North of England and South Scotland. The class 185's have a top speed of 100mph and feature a Cummins QSK19 coupled to a hydraulic transmission system which gives the DMU a "throaty" roar!
24th Aug 2008Class 20 "Moose/Ram"
Introduced in the late 1950's, these single-ended cab locomotives were once a common sight on the tracks right up until the late 1980's when a vast amount of them were displaced from freight duties by the newer, more powerful and modern looking Class 60's in 1989. Some strayed onto regular passenger work as gap-fillers with Mk1 stock due the late arrival of the second-gen DMU's like the Class 155/156's. While others of this type were either stored with a few going into Preservation or scrapped. Today only a handful of Class 20's remain in service which work the flask trains for DRS, although GM Class 66 locomotives are phasing them out on that duty too.
